Story: The Duality Portrait Series explores the concept of cognitive dissonance and human complexity through the process of double exposure portraits. Cognitive dissonance is the state of having inconsistent thoughts, beliefs or attitudes, thus creating mental tension. By taking double exposure photographs digitally, then printing them through an antiquated, analog process, I work to create visual dissonance and demonstrate duality. By placing the subject in each exposure within close proximity to one another, the images can be more difficult to digest. The brain attempts to combine the images together, making a cohesive image, but is instead left with tension. - Sabrina Langdon
